KASK RAPIDO

RAPIDO Review

The KASK RAPIDO is an excellent entry-level helmet packed with features that you wouldn’t normally find at this price.

Description

KASK has been in the cycling business since 2004 and has made a name for itself with a great range of quality road bike helmets. Their entry-level road bike helmet is the KASK RAPIDO.

Key features

  • 24 vents to help with airflow efficiency
  • Up ’n’ Down fit system
  • Lightweight at only 220g (size M)
  • Multi In-Moulding technology

Who should buy this?

If you’re looking for a quality helmet at a very affordable price then the KASK RAPIDO is one to consider. It’s extremely comfortable and has adjustable features that make it fit nicely. It has good airflow from the 24 vents and looks great.

The helmet is incredibly light which is ideal for weight-conscious racers.

Regardless of your riding ability, the KASK RAPIDO is an excellent choice.

Review

The first KASK helmet I purchased was the KASK RAPIDO for a number of reasons. Firstly, the low price was very appealing and so was how it looked. I love the design and the quality of the material used. The buckle straps are not scratchy like you would expect from a lower-priced helmet. The entire fit is extremely comfortable with the Up ’n’ Down fit system and the ratchet dial at the rear. The removable padding also adds to the comfort. The padding at the front of the helmet is in the perfect location to stop sweat dripping into my eyes on hot days.

The KASK Rapido has 24 vents which makes it great for airflow. However, KASK itself rated the RAPIDO poorly for ventilation and even worse for aerodynamics. I thought the airflow worked well due to the positioning of the air vents but for superior ventilation and aerodynamics, you need to look at their more expensive helmets.

In terms of safety, I give it 2 ticks. One for passing all the safety standards to actually sell the RAPIDO in Europe, USA, and Australia/New Zealand. The other tick is for the Multi In-Moulding technology which joins the outer shell to the inner polystyrene. This provides better shock absorption in the case of an accident. However, where this helmet falls down is the extra safety enhancements like MIPS, SPIN or WaveCel.

  • Retention cradle makes adjusting easy
  • Entry-level price for a quality helmet
  • 24 vents improves airflow
  • Lightweight helmet at 220g
  • No additional safety enhancements like MIPS, SPIN or WaveCel
  • Not highly rated in terms of aerodynamics

Compared to other road bike helmets

In conclusion

The RAPIDO was my first KASK helmet but I don’t keep it due to loyalty. I keep it because it’s a great helmet with a lot of features.

There are drawbacks, of course. Safety is an issue so I don’t usually use this one on the roads but keep it for the bike paths.

So if you want a great helmet at a very low price then this is a solid choice.
